The Ontario Provincial Shield of Arms (which is present in the Coat of Arms and Provincial Flag) which was granted after confederation in 1868. The gold maple leaves represent Ontario as maples are common in this province.  The cross of St. George, represents the English heritage of many of the people in Ontario at that time period, as well as being a reference to King George III.

The A-mazing World in an Mercator Projection. Based on a map projection which was developed by Gerhardt Mercator in the 17th century, which shows latitude and longitude in right angles to one another.

Emma Kunz (1892-1963) gained her international reputation through her artistic work. She described her works as "Shape and form expressed as measurement, rhythm, symbol and transformation of figure and principle."
